China

Beijing, China, is the focus of the world's attention with the start of the summer Olympic Games. The Lebanon Library has a variety of materials featured on Asian travel, China, and Tibet.
With the growing influence of this area of the world the books and visual materials offered in the library are especially timely.

Summer Olympics featured

Beijing hosts the summer Olympics in August and the Lebanon Library is featuring sports related materials.

We have many items on the history of the Olympics, as well as the individual sports that are part of the games.

Come in and see our display near the video section of the library.

Spring Volunteer Luncheon

Lebanon Community Library volunteers were honored at a spring luncheon on May 9, 2008. Volunteers were introduced and Bill Smeltzer, of the Lebanon Community Library Board of Directors, presented a token of appreciation to each volunteer.

Three of our volunteers , Bobbie Diefenderfer, Phyllis Rich, and Barbara Bross, have each contributed over a thousand hours of volunteer service to the library. They also prepared the lovely luncheon buffet for the event.

The Lebanon Community Library volunteers provide a variety of services to the library. Please inquire at the library circulation desk or inquire online at volunteers@lclibs.org if you would like to join our organization.

Golf Like the Pros

Interested in improving your golf game? The Lebanon Community Library has just the thing for you. Our shelves contain many volumes about the history of the game of golf, how to improve your game, and advice from the pros. We have several instructional videos, too.

Tiger may not be on the course for the rest of this season, but you can read about this phenomenal golfer right here.

Check out the many golf related topics in our display. Augusta, Pebble Beach, or Pinehurst may not be on your list of courses this summer, but you can always pick up a book and imagine you can golf like a pro!

Pleasant Surprise

As the children's librarian I try to add books to the kids' and teen collections that I like and I think others will too, but I don't always get a lot of feedback. I know they are being checked out, but I don't often hear whether someone likes a book or hates it.

Last week, though, I pulled Artemis Fowl by Irish author Eoin Colfer from the shelf and found a four leaf clover inside the front cover. This series for middle school and teens includes characters which are fairies and leprechauns with pots of gold.

At the library we love to hear about things like this, when people connect with books. So next time you're in the library let us know about a book you love!

Blast from the Past

At Bingo this week one of our pre-teen patrons mentioned she missed the rainbow room, which is now the rainforest room. So this is a tribute to the rainbow room circa 1985!
