We Can't Wait!

The current #1 bestselling book on Amazon.com won't even be published for another 4 months. That's right, I'm talking about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

The library's staff book group is reading Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake (FIC/LAH and on audiobook CASS/FIC/LAH) and I can't help but recommending it to others! It is the story of an American family with global ties. The main character Gogol Ganguli is brought up by a family born in Calcutta, but living in the U.S. so his father can persue his academic career. Throughout the book it is Gogol's search for love and identity that kept me reading.

The Namesake is also gaining attention due to the recent theatrical release (I don't think our theatres in Lebanon have screened it yet) based on book. For more info on the film check out Fox http://www.foxsearchlight.com/site/thenamesake/ And yes, that is Kal Penn from Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle playing a very different character this time. For more information on the book check out amazon http://www.amazon.com/Namesake-movie-tie-Jhumpa-Lahiri/dp/0618733965/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-7075255-0775646?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173707551&sr=1-1 And if you like The Namesake also check out Lahiri's Pulitzer Prize Winning Interpreter of Maladies (J/TEEN/LAH)

An extra-special new arrival

I can't contain the excitement!!! Tracy Chevalier's new book just arrived!!! Burning Bright will be published March 20th. For those of you who don't share my obsession with Chevalier (probably the majority of the population), she is the author of Girl with a Pearl Earring, recently made into a movie. After I read Girl with a Pearl Earring, I flew through her other three books (Falling Angels, The Virgin Blue, and The Lady and the Unicorn) and have been impatiently waiting for this one! In keeping with her theme of bringing historical figures and periods to life, Burning Bright focuses on William Blake: poet, artist, and printer. "Burning Bright evokes the full pageantry of Georgian London: its circus spectacles, mustard factories, pubs and bawdy songs, the grandeur of Westminster Abbey and the secrets of Cut-Throat Lane" (from the front flap).

Other books honored with sharing the same shipping box as Burning Bright:
Sister Mine by Tawni O'Dell. Pennsylvania author O'Dell returns with this novel set a small PA mining town. Publication date: March 13.
At Some Disputed Barricade by Anne Perry. The 4th year of WWI is the appropriate setting for the 4th book in Perry's WWI series. Publication date: March 13.
Daddy's Girl by Lisa Scottoline. A cryptic message from a dying man leads Natalie Greco to a way of life she never thought she'd enter. Publication date: March 13.

As always, happy reading!
